All non-residents who wish to acquire real estate must make it conditional upon approval of the Foreign Investment Review Board (FIRB). Foreign non-residents or short term visa holders can invest in Australian real estate only if that investment adds to the housing stock.
Foreign Investment approved properties which are shown on this website will be specified with the initials “FIRB approved”.
Australian Citizens and Permanent Residents, who have been resident in Australia for at least 200 days in the last year, are exempt.
